Gloria’s Corner: Supporting Youth through Travel

It is not cliché to say the youth are our hope for the future. I am passionate about helping support young people, which is why Omega has been in a partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Washington for several years. We consistently offer our helping hands to this foundation because we love seeing the children learn life skills that will prepare them for future success.

In the past, we have sponsored several Junior Achievement events. We provided prizes, like airline tickets, and given away a multitude of awards.  Most recently, Omega has joined in a partnership with JA Finance Park in Montgomery County, as well as continued our investment in the vacation storefront at JA Finance Park in Fairfax County.

I am in awe of what Junior Achievement teaches its students. They are given scenarios of realistic situations where they must learn to budget and make the best of what they have. Initiatives such as these are more important than ever. There is no better time than now to teach young people how to manage their money, live within their means and even budget for a vacation or two. We view the Finance Park as an exciting vehicle for providing students with the financial knowledge they will need to make informed decisions on lifestyle, careers and life goals. We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to connect with the students in our own backyard. We are excited to be a local stakeholder in this effort. I’m sure it will teach every business sponsor, student, teacher and school involved some interesting lessons about financial realities and responsibilities.

In addition to our efforts to support youth on land, I am happy to hear that one of’s preferred cruise line’s is also supporting the younger generation. Carnival Cruise Line’s impact travel line, Fathom, is now supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. In their newest endeavor, they will host a cruise solely dedicated to this type of learning. The July 17 cruise to the Dominican Republic will feature: hands on science activities, the study of endangered species, weather, and much more in an effort to teach students about real-world matters and hot topics, such as renewable energy.

I am excited to see what the future of travel holds for the younger generations and vow to continue to support the youth to my fullest capacity.
