LAX is in the midst of a $14 billion upgrade that will be finished by 2023. The renovations first began in 2013, with the complete revamping and grand re-opening of Tom Bradley International Terminal. An extension to the terminal, set to become one of the “smartest” concourses complete with biometric boarding gates and flight information displays allowing personalized maps, is scheduled to open in 2020. Other technical advantages will allow visitors to book a car, pre-order food and drinks, and retail purchasing before even getting to the airport. LAX says this is to attract millennial travelers, as they are technically savvy. The airport is also important Hawaii and Australia transfers and for business and leisure travel. LAX offers the LAX FlyAway, which is an expensive bus that transports travelers from the airport to various destinations in Los Angeles. 85% of travelers visiting Los Angeles are domestic travelers. Once completed, LAX will be one of the “smartest” airports in the world.
