Beginning September 23, Amtrak’s Acela service will offer a nonstop Washington to New York route. The southbound route will leave New York Penn Station at 6:35am, and will arrive at Washington Union Station at 9:10am. The northbound service will leave Washington at 4:30pm and arrive in New York around 7:05pm. This new Acela service will cut the train ride time down by two and a half hours. The trains will have the same service and amenities as the normal Acela trains, including the quiet car, café, and first-class. The New York – Washington route will eventually open up to Boston as well, once Amtrak gets their new trains into production around 2021. Testing the new trains will begin later this year.
