TSA Unveils First-of-its-Kind Checkpoint

Earlier this month, representatives from both the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS), presented the Innovation Checkpoint. The first of its kind in the nation, the checkpoint allows the evaluation of emerging security technologies and side-by-side testing at a live checkpoint. The data that will be collected from these tests will help to develop future innovations and capabilities that will heighten the TSA’s security effectiveness overall. Austin Gould, TSA Assistant Administrator for Requirements and Capabilities Analysis, says, The Innovation Checkpoint at McCarran International Airport is an exciting initiative that provides TSA with the unique opportunity to demonstrate multiple solutions and capabilities by various vendors in one physical environment without interrupting current airport operations… Our long-term vision is that this checkpoint will serve as an innovative sandbox for the entire agency to demonstrate new strategies and solutions that will ultimately increase security effectiveness, heighten the passenger experience, and deliver enhanced capabilities to our front line personnel.”
