New York Now Banned From Global Entry

Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Secretary Chad Wolf, declared that residents of New York will no longer be qualified to enroll, or re-enroll in Trusted Traveler programs, i.e. Global Entry, FAST, NEXUS, and SENTRI. This ruling will begin the week of February 5th. This law signed in June by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, known as the “Green Light Law”, went into effect in December. This ruling makes it slightly easier for undocumented immigrants to apply for NY drivers ‘licenses. Fox stated, “we sent a letter to New York indicating because they took these measures, that New York residents are no longer eligible to enroll in these Trusted Traveler Programs.” The ban will be enforced by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on orders from the DHS. The U.S. Travel Association Executive Vice President, Tori Emerson Barnes, shamed the DHS for “politicizing travel” and is actively against this measure against New York. .
