Delta Launches Cargo Operations

Delta recently initiated a new charter cargo operation to send essential goods to keep supply chains operational during the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 24, Delta sent a cargo-only plane from Dublin to Atlanta that had medical supplies. This cargo flight held more than 32,000 pounds of pharmaceutical and medical supplies that were loaded onto the plane. Delta expects more flights from Dublin will follow. Delta also sent two Boeing 777-200LRs to Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, also on the 24th. Sydney to LAX flights had more than 80 tons of cargo. Later this week, a cargo shipment will be delivered from Chicago to Amsterdam. Shawn Cole, Vice President – Delta Cargo, says, we are here to help keep global commerce moving and supply lines open and helping to transform our operation to provide cargo-only charter flights allows us to diversify our business at a time where the global need to move critical supplies is significant. It is also core to what we do and who we are and; ensuring we connect the world, even in challenging times. Delta is using the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 planes as they are two of the biggest planes available in the Delta fleet and can carry up to 42 and 49 tons of cargo in the hold.
