According to data from home booking site Vrbo, Americans are headed for the beach for the 4th of July weekend. Travelers who booked a stay on the site for the weekend mostly picked beachy locales in the South, followed by those on the East Coast. According to Vrbo, the Florida Panhandle is the top booked destination.
The Gulf Shores in Alabama came in as the second most popular holiday weekend spot, with the Hamptons in New York coming in third. The Hamptons started reopening in time for Memorial Day with some popular Montauk resorts welcoming guests after New York’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave the okay for state and local beaches to reopen. The Outer Banks in North Carolina came in at No. 7 on the list.
