United Upgrades Air Filters

United Airlines has completed the installation of hospital-grade HEPA air filters on its operating fleet of 36 Embraer E145 aircraft. The 50-seat planes are used for United Express-branded flights. HEPA filtration systems circulate aircraft air every two to four minutes. Airlines, backed by recent studies, claim they substantially reduce the possibility of in-flight Covid-19 transmission.

Following the E145 retrofits, the only aircraft flown by United or under the United Express brand that don't have HEPA or HEPA-equivalent filtrations systems are the roughly 150 Bombardier CRJ-200s operated for United Express by Air Wisconsin and SkyWest, United spokesman Charles Hobart said.
